Buzzwords is an excellent poetry reading, open mic and workshopping event happening regularly in Cheltenham. Last night Daniel Sluman led a workshop on finding poems from misheard or misread phrases, before sharing poems from his first collection, Absence has a Weight of its Own, with us.
Here’s one of two short poems I found in Dan’s workshop. The starting phrase was “We are universal afterbirth, swirled gas and form”.
Advanced Model Building for Beginners
We are universal afterbirth
swirled gas and formless
synapses of God’s
slumberous neuronal pathways.
Each impulse another being.
Each thought another world.
Each dream another galaxy.
Each waking instantly another universe
on which to practice
then abandon in the toy box
with an infinity of dusty others.
